Lafayette Parish Public Schools announced its plan for reopening on July 16, 2020 in response to COVID-19. Here are highlights of the plan:
The academic year will begin on Monday, August 17, 2020 in Phase 2, which will remain in effect through the end of the first nine-weeks on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Phase 2 is a blended model of in-person and virtual with only 25 individuals allowed in a group at a time. Students will report to school on A/B days, alternating between in school and distance/virtual learning models. PK-5 students remain in static groups, interaction between groups is minimized, with individuals in combo settings being allowed to transition with safety precautions. Face coverings are mandatory for students in third and fourth grade and highly encouraged for students in lower grades.
Students will attend school on alternating days which will be determined by the student’s home address currently on file. Students with an odd-numbered address will attend on A days. (Monday, Wednesday and alternating Fridays) Students with an even-numbered address will attend on B days (Tuesday, Thursday, and alternating Fridays) For students that live in an apartment, duplex, or unit will use the actual number of the dwelling to determine the day for attendance. Learning is required, and grades will be assigned so it is important that students are able to connect to Wi-Fi from home to complete required work and assignments. Click here for low-cost internet options, from $10/month. Families should be prepared to switch to 100% online learning at any time.
