Red Ribbon Week at Woodvale

Can’t wait to see everyone showing their Red Ribbon spirit this week!

Weekly Wrap Up

Happy Weekend! Here are a few reminders to help you prepare for next week (and this weekend) as well as answers to a few questions that I have recently received.
The first Symposium Work Days are this weekend. If you have signed up to help or you would like to help, volunteers are meeting in the cafeteria Saturday, September 30th at 10AM and Sunday, October 1st at 3PM.
Symposium T-Shirt Orders–If you haven’t ordered a Symposium T-Shirt, it’s not too late. Shirts are $10 ($12 for Adult XXL and Adult XXXL). Students can wear Symposium T-Shirts the day of Symposium and all Fridays following Symposium.
Tuesday, October 3rd is Fall Picture Day. Don’t forget to hand in your Lifetouch form with student’s name, teacher, grade and any special instructions for the photographer. Payment is not necessary at this time. Proofs will be sent home at a later date and additional options will be available online. UNIFORMS MUST BE WORN–these pictures will be yearbook pictures. Get those haircuts this weekend!
The end of the First Nine Weeks is quickly approaching. Did you forget anything?

-Did you hand in the Box Tops that you’ve been collecting?

-Did you hand in Community Coffee Labels?

-Has your student reached his or her AR goal? (Kindergarten and most 1st graders will not have AR goals). Goals can be checked using the Renaissance Home Connect website.

-Remember, you can also keep track of grades using the parent portal. This will help to avoid any “surprises” on report card day.

*Students receive incentives for reaching goals, completing homework, attending school and being on honor roll each 9 weeks.
Shirts on Fridays–In addition to uniform shirts, students can wear Woodvale Spirit Shirts, Symposium Shirts and UL or red shirts (during football season) on Fridays.
Mirrors–We are collecting mirrors for a Leader In Me Wall. If you have any mirrors you are willing to part with, please consider donating them to Woodvale.
Playground Work Day will be Saturday, October 7th starting at 8AM. Volunteers are still needed. If you cannot volunteer your time, please consider donating food or drink items for volunteers. You can do so by clicking on the following link:

An Email from Mrs. Vidos

Dear Parents,

It is a pleasure to welcome your child to Woodvale Elementary for the 2017-2018 school year. The first day of school for students in Grades 1st through 4th is Wednesday, August 9, 2017.  Parents of Kindergarten students, please see the attached letter for more Kindergarten information and start dates.

School hours are from 7:55 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.

Car rider students are to be dropped off and picked up in the car rider lane in the front of school.

Car rider students may be dropped off between 7:25-7:50 a.m.  Afternoon car rider pick up begins at 3:10 p.m.  Parents of walkers will meet their children at the gate.   This policy is for the safety of all students.

Parents and students are invited to school for Meet and Greet on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 8:00-11:00 a.m. in order to submit required documentation, locate classrooms, and meet teachers.

Parents and students may attend Meet and Greet ANYTIME DURING THE HOURS OF 8:00-11:00 a.m.

Below are the Meet and Greet procedures:

Parents and students REPORT FIRST TO THE CAFETERIA to submit a current proof of residence (this must be a current utility or gas bill with your name and current address dated June or July 2017) and class fees (Kindergarten – $20.00, 1st – 4th – $25.00).

Please make checks payable to Woodvale Elementary.

After proof of residence and class fees are submitted, class placement/teacher name will be given.

Students and parents then report to the designated classroom to meet the teacher and turn in school supplies (if purchased prior).  School supplies may also be brought to school on the first day.

Woodvale Elementary is providing Extended Care after school from 3:20 – 5:30 p.m.  This LPSS sponsored program will replace the YMCA program.  Registration will take place during Meet and Greet on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.  More information will be given at Meet and Greet.

Open House will be held for parents of 3rd and 4th grade students on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  Open House for parents of Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
